An ultra bright, portable, ultraviolet light source that enables fluorescence to be viewed even in full daylight has been launched by Ultrafine Technology. The Superlite 100 is a compact unit that takes advantage of breakthroughs in lamp technology to produce greatly increased output.
The unit is just half the size of the previous model, yet has a lower cost despite its increased UV intensity. It also offers a considerably longer lamp life in excess of 2000h.
The Superlite 100's increased intensity of 7W in the UVA range opens up new applications not possible with earlier models. With a battery connected to its 12Vdc rear socket, it is fully portable, making it possible to carry out fluorescence investigations in the field.
The unit is ideal for forensic and police work, as markedly improved results at a crime scene can be achieved due to the higher illumination, improved contrast and ability to perform fluorescence examinations in daylight.
The output can also be switched to an intense white light, which has the advantage of making a tripod unnecessary when taking photographs without flash.
Applications for the unit include the collection of evidence in poorly illuminated sites, verification of banknotes, the direct spotting of foreign fibres on textiles, and examination in daylight of documents with security features.
The Superlite 100 accepts the same accessories as previous units, including a comprehensive range of liquid lightguides. A line illuminator for greatly improved footprint detection is also available.
